Ngorongoro Crater is the collapsed cone of an old volcano. Its floor holds grassland, a soda lake, swamp and patches of forest, with wildlife living there all year. You drive down the crater wall, spend time on the floor, then drive back up for the return to Arusha.
It is the longest of the day trips from Arusha, so expect an early start and a late return. The price includes the Ngorongoro conservation fees and the crater service fee, which make up a large share of the cost, plus a hamper lunch, drinks in the vehicle, a safari hat and government tax.
